Amazon Web Services Hires Microsoft Veteran to Head Up EC2 Cloud

Prior to Amazon, Rizzo led product management and competitive strategy as senior director, Microsoft Office and Office 365. Rizzo was in charge of services capabilities in Office 365 including security, privacy, networking, identity, mobility and SLA, and startegy and execution for the Office and Office 365 developer platforms and tools.

Rizzo has been a long time Microsoft employee, he started as a group product manager, Microsoft Exchange server, in October 2006. Many people on Twitter remarked that his appointment by Amazon will be a big loss for Microsoft since he was a well known brand ambassador for Office 365.

In May, Microsoft received a lot of criticism for the way it handled the Microsoft Office Live Small Business customer migration, which it discontinued in order to develop its Office 365 cloud productivity suite. Several web hosts have launched services around the SMB cloud suite, including SherWeb Office 365 solution called SkyOffice.

On Wednesday, web host Go Daddy announced that it has named former Microsoft India director of SMB and cloud business Rajiv Sodhi managing director of Go Daddy India.
