com Weathers New Media Slowdown

Two or three years ago, before the high tech reality check of the economic downturn, streaming media was only beginning to demonstrate its potential as one of the Internet?s most promising means of communication.

think there was a lot of interest in the beginning, but people hadn yet had enough experience with it, says McCoubrey. I think streaming media honeymoon was cut short with the downturn in the marketplace. With Internet businesses making cutbacks, and streaming yet to develop into a proven moneymaker, investment and exploration into the technology were limited. have weathered, says McCoubrey, will continue to weather, the current storm in the new media marketplace. While technology implemented by the company has continued to develop, much of the focus has been on the business behind streaming media.

of the reasons we around, says McCoubrey, that we believe in a very simple proposition toward Web streaming. The company, he says, believes that streaming media itself is becoming a commodity, and is happy to drive the product that way. believe that some of the packages we created, he says, the need for an entry level product. We think there will be price pressure downward in the marketplace, and we want to be seen as addressing that. have very simple, cost effective entry level packages, says McCoubrey, it for radio, on demand, or even live webcasting. The 99 pound package that we currently have in place focuses mainly on on demand. It allows people to get their toe in the water and go. The solution is designed to capitalize on the interest surrounding Internet radio, one of streaming media most popular applications. a steady trickle of requests for online radio stations, says McCoubrey, that definitely got growth in it. We want to pursue that, and pursue it quite aggressively. far, he says, the response has been good. The radio package itself is designed to be cost effective, and can be tailored to a range of technological needs, from a complete encoding, hosting, and managing box solution, to a hosting only solution for established customers.

According to McCoubrey, the advantage of working with smaller organizations goes beyond their availability as customers. Smaller customers, given the right environment and support, can quickly become larger customers. need some kind of encouragement to enter the marketplace, he says, that not asking them to pay 1000 pounds per month or more. in addition to their potential for growth, smaller customers can provide the potential for some unusual and interesting work. continually being surprised by some of the entries into the medium, says McCoubrey. is keen to focus on Fortune 500 companies, and that certainly something that we can focus on, and do. But there a tremendous undercurrent of innovative and individual projects that are very exciting, and we want to get involved in those as well. has built up its infrastructure ahead of demand, and in doing so, has given itself the capacity to handle the growth that McCoubrey sees in the future. are expanding our in house capabilities all the time, he says. we are very proactive and aggressive in addressing the growth issue and the scalability issue.

And according to McCoubrey, that growth could come soon for the streaming media marketplace. think people will pick up interest, he says. since what has unfortunately happened in September in the States, I think there a renewed interest in communicating audio visually over great distances. And I hear this across lots of different marketplaces. streaming media may not yet have reached its renaissance, the slow business of the past few years may be starting to reverse. really do think that we still at the early stages, says McCoubrey. significant momentum yet to be built in the public experience of the medium.
